Táto prednáška Patricka Madigana odznela 4. 12. 2012 v aule Teologickej fakulty Trnavskej univerzity, na ktorú prišiel prednášať v rámci učiteľských mobilít Erazmus. Patrick Madigan prednáša v Londýne na Heythrop College. Zaoberá sa problematikou dejín myslenia (History of Ideas). Je editorom filozofického časopisu Heythrop Journal. Napísal viacero kníh, okrem iných: Completion of the Project of the West and Its Romantic Sequel : Essays in the History of Western Culture (Scranton Press, 2005); Aristotle and His Modern Critics : The Use of Tragedy in the Nontragic Vision (Scranton Press, 2002); The Modern Project to Rigor : Descartes to Nietzsche (University Press of America, 1985). Je tiež spoluautorom či editorom mnohých ďalších kníh a prekladov. V ostatnom čase sa zaoberá štúdiom diela J. Miltona.
The Tree of Life : Philosophical and Theological Considerations

Biology continues to use the Tree of Life image to show the temporal continuity and discontinuity of the living beings. Moreover, the development of genetic, molecular biology and paleontology has originated phylogenetics. This discipline studies evolutionary relatedness among various groups of organisms through molecular sequencing data and morphological data matrices. The Tree offers interesting points for semiotic perspectives and for theological approaches too. The symbolic reading of the Tree of Life, on the one hand, and the analogies with the Biblical genealogies and some Christian images, on the other hand, will be explored.

KARABA, M.: Historicism in the Kuhn’s Philosophy of Science. Studia Aloisiana, 4, 2013, 1, s. 29 – 43.
Thomas Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolution was a widely discussed alternative to the orthodox account of science. Kuhn formulated a “rational reconstruction” of scientific progress, a reconstruction based on his own interpretation of developments in the history of science. He developed it with emphasis into a model of scientific progress in which periods of “normal science” alternate with periods of “revolutionary science”. Normal science is a conservative enterprise which can be characterized as puzzle-solving activity. A paradigm is not rejected on the basis of a comparison of its consequences and empirical evidence. Rather paradigm-rejection is a three-term relation which involves an established paradigm, a rival paradigm, and observational evidence. This paradigm replacement resembles a gestalt-shift. Despite the largely critical reception, Kuhn’s work has been hugely influential, both within philosophy and outside it.

Bázeň a fascinácia v náboženskej skúsenosti

GAVENDOVÁ, O.: Awe and Fascination in Religious Experience. Studia Aloisiana, 4, 2013, 1, s. 45 – 53.
The paper is focused on the religious experience which differs from common human experiences because it is related to the Nominous. This experience is accompanied by sense of fear or awe and by sense of fascination. The starting point is the book Idea of Holy by R. Otto who understands this emotion as an answer to something „wholly other“. According to Otto the religious experience remains exclusively at the level of emotions. He overlooks further human capacities – reason and will – which play irreplaceable role in the religious experience.

Pastoračný pohľad na krízové situácie rodín v aspekte sluchového postihnutia

ŽIŠKA, Z.: Pastoral View on Families in Crisis from the Aspect of Hearing Impairment. Studia Aloisiana, 4, 2013, 1, s. 55 – 69.
This article deals with the problematics of hearing impairment and its consequences on married couple’s communication, that has a direct influence on solving the critical situations in a family. It analyses how much hearing impairment can influence the steadiness of matrimony. The basis resource is a statistics overview that points out a high number of divorces due to personality differences, opinions and interests. All these reasons are taken as consequences of nuisance communication. These differences may be eliminated and sorted out by a suitable pastoral approach towards forming an effective communication of two partners. This difference can be an effect of hearing impairment consequence, that brings various risks. Responsible and suitable approach towards a dialogue may serve as a prevention of a relationship breakup and also as a way to a valuable relationship.
