Teologicko-etická analýza Bonhoefferovho konceptu „drahej milosti“
Katarína Valčová
VALČOVÁ, K.: A Theological-Ethical Analysis of Bonhoeffer’s Concept of “Costly Grace”. Teologický časopis, XII, 2014, 1, s. 5 – 14.
Luther derives his concept of “costly grace” from carefully studying Luther’s theology and in response to an inadequate, unfaithful representation of the Reformer’s theology of grace by the established Lutheran Church in Germany (as well as the popular piety) of his time. Constitutive to his concept of “costly grace” seems to be the “Christus praesens” idea, stemming from the reality of the continuous presence and work of the incarnate Christ in and among His people in the power of his Spirit. The “costly grace” is the biggest treasure of the Church, whereas the so called “cheap grace” is its biggest enemy. The “costly grace” has profound ethical and ecclesiological implications (among other).

Metodológia kontemplatívnej modlitby v druhom týždni Duchovných cvičení sv. Ignáca
Ján Benkovský SJ
BENKOVSKÝ, J.: Methodology of the Contemplative Prayer in the Second Week of Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Teologický časopis, XII, 2014, 1, s. 15 – 33.
In the Church’s tradition there are known many ways and methods of prayer. The Christian tradition knows three main forms of prayer life: oral prayer, meditation and contemplative prayer. A small book of Spiritual Exercises by Ignatius of Loyola contains around ten different forms, guidelines and methods, which Ignatius offers to someone making a retreat. Ignatius with regards prayer went out of his own personal experience. He gave a lot of space to contemplation. This article aims to introduce in detail a contemplative prayer to both, Christian and Non-Christian. We may notice that Ignatius is putting his own experience in this old traditional prayer. The main intention of this article is to show the contemplative prayer method. And thus through a prayer method to approach the mystery of Christ in contemplating the Gospel scenes: seeing people, hearing words they utter and watching how they act. The article is also a contribution to the spiritual formation of a reader.

Konečná porážka arianizmu v Miláne
List 76 svätého Ambróza adresovaný sestre Marcelline o vydaní baziliky

ANDOKOVÁ, M., HORKA, R.: Final Victory of Arianism in Milan : The Letter 76 of Saint Ambrose of Milan to His Sister Marcellina about Overtaking the Basilica. Teologický časopis, XII, 2014, 2, s. 35 – 48.
Saint Ambrose, bishop of Milan, played a central role in the final defeat of Arianism in the western part of the Roman Empire. Although the Catholics of the Nicean faith represented a majority in the city, Justina, mother of the emperor Valentianus II requested from Ambrose in 385 a small Portius’ basilica, situated extra muros, for the purposes of the Arian cult, but the Catholic bishop refused her claim. The following year the conflict between the two parties, the imperial court on the one hand, and the Catholic community of the city of Milan, on the other hand, culminated the week before Easter. In this conflict, however, Ambrose managed to defend the church which remained Catholic. And this event was recorded in his Letter 76 to his sister Marcellina, the translation of which we offer in this study.

Príbeh Ježišovho narodenia (Lk 2,1-20): thriller so šťastným koncom alebo čosi iné?
Adrian Kacian
KACIAN, A.: Jesus’ Birth Story (Luke 2:1-20): a Thriller with a Happy End or Something Else? Teologický časopis, XII, 2014, 1, s. 49 – 56.
The objective of the present paper is to analyze common dramatic interpretation of Jesus’ birth story that is based on the text from the Gospel of Luke 2:1-20. This dramatic interpretation presents Jesus’ birth as a thriller of Jesus rejection by the world with a happy end. The rejection is commonly expressed in the reactions of innkeepers who played a crucial part in this dramatic interpretation. The existence of the innkeepers (usually three of them) is based on translations of the Greek word kata, luma from Luke 2:7, that is usually rendered as inn. However, the author on the basis of textual and contextual analysis demonstrates inaccuracy of this rendering and the dramatic interpretation as well. The author presents the alternative rendering of the word kata, luma as the upper or guest room and alternative flow of Jesus’ birth story: Jesus was born in a guest room of one of Joseph’s relative. Joseph and Mary arrived there way ahead Jesus’ delivery and did not have to seek lodging in the inns. From the outward perspective, Jesus was born as normal Palestinian child. This reconstruction thus supports the key message of the Lukan text: a man needs a divine impulse (an angel or the Holy Spirit) to discover God’s decisive actions in a story that is outwardly ordinary.

Podoby koexistencie kresťanstva a islamu v pluralitnej západnej spoločnosti
Hedviga Tkáčová
TKÁČOVÁ, H.: Forms of Coexistence of Christianity and Islam in Western Pluralistic Society. Teologický časopis, XII, 2014, 1, s. 57 – 81.
The author of the thesis analyses the beginnings of Islam in Christian Europe in order to describe the basic characteristics of the initial spread of Islam in European countries. The article also presents Islam in today’s Europe through selected events that quite clearly identify the clash of two cultures, respectively the clash of two religions as well as examples which represent the efforts to start interreligious dialogue. These examples can illustrate two most significant possibilities of existence, respectively coexistence of Christianity and Islam in west Europe plurality culture – it is a conflict of two cultures and, on the other hand, current possibilities of dialogue. The object of the article is an indication of European countries behaviour’s trends in relation to Muslims living in their territory and on the other hand, trends in the behaviour of Muslims in European countries and follow the trends outlined their mutual coexistence.
