Kumránske texty v kontexte židovskej apokalyptiky a židovského mysticizmu
Sidonia Horňanová
HORŇANOVÁ, S.: Qumran Texts in Context of Jewish Apocalypticism and Jewish Mysticism. Teologický časopis, X, 2012, 2, s. 5 – 25.
It is generally accepted that Jewish mysticism found in the Hekhalot Literature and in later Merkava mysticism developed out of apocalyptic movement in the Second Temple period. The literature of celestial palaces, so called the Hekhalot literature, was primarily based on creative scriptural exegesis especially of the vision of Ezekiel 1 and the vision of Isaiah 6. This study deals with biblical and apocalyptic basis of later Jewish mystical texts. Although there is no evidence of mystical praxis in Qumran, some sectarian texts are related to earlier apocalyptic traditions and to later Jewish mysticism by the ascents and following enthronement in heaven, vision of the divine throne (merkava), liturgical communion with angelic worship and the disclosure of the mysteries of the chariot. Especially Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice gives a detailed picture of heavenly worship offered by the angels before the throne of God in heaven. They are filled with the scenes of heavenly liturgy conducted by the angels. This liturgical document is considered as the most important representative of Qumran mysticism. The study points out some crucial links between Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice and the early esoteric trends in rabbinic Judaism and early medieval Judaism so called Hekhalot literature which describes certain otherworldly experiences (especially ascent to heaven) as well as the means to achieve them. It is concluded that Songs of the Sabbath Sacrifice can not really be defined as mystical in the full sense of the word, since they are descriptive rather than truly experiential. They are much more concerned with description of the angels in the act of praising God than with quotation of praise uttered by the angels.
