Hans Urs von Balthasar and his hundredth anniversary (1905 – 1988)
The hundredth anniversary of the impressive German speaking theologian of the 20th century from Switzerland, Hans Urs von Balthasar, is the reason for this article. The most important dates of his biography, which are relevant for his development as an author and thinker, are described here. From the complexity of his ouevre and of his Christian life some fields of Balthasar’s work are introduced – such as patristic studies, translations from French literature, philosophical books, and the theological perspective of his works. These are connected with soteriology, the life of the Church and of the saints, contained in separate books and in his main work – the Trilogy.

Spiritual Exercises and Jesuit Education
St. Ignatius’ experience of the spiritual exercises and university education in Paris was the basis of the inspiration and tradition of the Jesuit higher education system. The principle and fondation of the exercises developed into the contemplation to achieve love brings several important principles for the Jesuit education institutions. The exercises are the soul of the Jesuit educational system, which is spread all over the world. The Jesuit schools offer all levels of education to more than two millions students on all the continents.

Final Exams and Graduation at the Trnava University
Undergraduate and graduate programs at the Trnava University have always concluded with a special final examination and graduation ceremony. Bachelor, magister and doctoral exams included disputations. The themes discussed have usually been different problems of Dogmatics, Holy Scripture and Ascetics. The questions regarding the history came into consideration only later. The Bachelor graduations took place at the University main Hall and doctoral graduation at the University church. They were far more splendid than nowadays.

The aim of the article is to catch the basis of relation: humanism versus transcendence in modern sight and so increase the dialogue between the culture and religion in Slovakia.

Pastoral Care in Families in the Context with the Transmission of Faith
Despite various changes the family had to undergo in the last decades, it still occupies the most important place in the list of values in Slovakia. However, scholars agree that family nowadays is in crisis and its position in the contemporary society is quite complicated.
With regard to unsubstitutable role of family in the procreation and socialization of a new generation, as well as in the formation of interpersonal relations in human society, the comprehensive societal aid and the family protection are expected. The state, society and inernational organizations should protect family by political, economical, social, health and juridical type of intervention, so that it may fulfill its specific tasks.
The family is united with Church by manifold ties, which make it be the “domestic Church”. It becomes a certain living reflection and historical expression of the mystery of Church. The Church considers necessary and primary pastoral task to devote itself to the marriage and family by the theological research, surveying their functions, prospective and threads. In the practical level by the solid multistage preparation, family advisory service, building of the family communities in the parishes and finally with family related charismas.
Thanks to its richness, the family becomes both excellent school and practice of apostolate: first by internal family apostolate, then by apostolate among neighbouring families and outside. Initiative processes for adults that the early Church practiced in its communities, are now naturally practiced within the families. The parents introduce their children to prayer, family liturgy, catechesis and gradually to the Universal Church by introducing them to the parish community and sacramental preparation.

Family as the Origin of the Conditions for Development of Personality, Social Change and the Mission of the Curch
There have always been many social problems in the history of human society. Their solutions, or at least confinements to the bearable limits, have been found thanks to the natural regulators, among which the basic cell of human society – family had a special place.
With the increase of individualism and unlimitited hedonism, family became a problem, impediment, or perhaps even a crossing point of many problems. By the end of the 1960’s, family was said to be a useless institution.
It is impossible do not see the negative consequences of this approach. This is why some social institutions, among which there also is the Catholic Church, try to re-discover the basic family values, which are so important for individuals, for social situation, and also for renewal of the Church. In this line of thinking don Sergio Nicolli, director of the National office of the Italian bishop conference for family, proceeds in his article.

Likewise, the results are given of the author’s research into spiritual experiences of students of psychology (their categorization, samples of statements about religious and nonreligious spiritual experiences).

Kult Góry Trzech Krzyży na Litwie, w Polsce i Łatgalii (na Łotwie) – symbolem duchowości i walk narodów o wolność religijną
Cult of the Hill of Three Crosses in Lithuania, Poland and Lettgallia (Latvia) – a Symbol of Spirituality and National Battles of Religion Freedom
The purpose of the article is to investigate the cult of the Hill of Three Crosses in Lithuania, Poland and Lettgallia (Latvia). The goals of the investigation were: first – to describe the history of the temples of the Hills of Three Crosses in short, referring to the historical sources and folklore; second – to investigate and to designate the time, place and characteristics of the rituals, prayers, hymns carried out by the folk in them, referring to the material of the summer outdoor expeditions; third – to review the religious and geopolitical events in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia, that could have helped this religious phenomenon to get established. The investigations that were carried out helped to make these conclusions: 1. The establishment of these cult places is associated with Polish religious culture: Cross path rituals of Poland and „Mournful Cry“ prayers and hymns. The cult of the Hill of Three Crosses in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia originated in the background of the wars and disasters of the XVI – XVII centuries. 3. The cult of the Three Crosses in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia is a distinctive symbol of Catholicism in Lithuania – Polish Kingdom. The results validate the hypothesis that Cult of the Hill of Three Crosses in Lithuania, Poland and Lettgallia (Latvia) is a symbol of spirituality and nationality of religion freedom.
